Geology of Montecastelli Pisano (inner Northern Apennines, Italy): normal and transfer fault zones affecting a dismantled ophiolite bearing orogenic wedge

چکیده

We present the geological map (1:10.000) of Montecastelli Pisano area, where (i) relationships between Neogene-Quaternary transfer and normal faults have been carefully mapped (Sheet 1), (ii) mantle sequence Ligurian Ocean has analysed 2). Fault analyses allowed to define: NE-trending fault system (left-lateral strike- oblique-slip faults) belonging a shear zone; NW-trending faults. Their evolution is framed in extensional tectonics affecting Northern Apennines since Early-Middle Miocene. The ophiolite complex constituted by serpentinized spinelharzburgite with minor dunite channels cut gabbro dykes. A km-scale cataclastic zone section, locally hosting Cu-Fe mineralization. goal this work distribution main fractures an area occurrence can favor success CO2 reinjection project.

Syn-thrusting polygonal normal faults exposed in the hinge of the Cingoli anticline, northern Apennines, Italy

The Cingoli arcuate anticline is part of the Apennines fold-thrust belt in Italy. The anticline nvolves sedimentary carbonate strata generally affected by syn-thrusting contractional tructures such as bed-normal pressure solution seams, folds, and reverse faults. An xception is constituted by an outcrop in the anticline hinge, where sub-horizontal arbonate and chert beds are affected by joints ...

Miocene fault-controlled sedimentation and thrust propagation in the previously faulted external zones of the Umbria-Marche Apennines, Italy

Thrust propagation through previously faulted continental margins may result in fold and thrust belts whose structure is strongly controlled by the inherited basin architecture. A detailed geological study has been carried out in the external zone of the Umbria-Marche Apennines, from Monte San Vicino to the north, to Montagna dei Fiori to the south. Stratigraphic and structural data, together w...

Characterization of active fault scarps from LiDAR data: a case study from Central Apennines (Italy)

A high resolution DEM (1 ms spacing) derived from an airborne LiDAR campaign was 10 used in an attempt to characterize the structural and erosive elements of the geometry of the Pettino 11 fault, a seismogenic normal fault in Central Apennines (Italy). Four 90to 280 m -long fault scarp 12 segments were selected and the surface between the base and the top of the scarps was analyzed 13 through t...
